On the Boards

On the Boards is a theater group based in Seattle Washington. They're continually trying to produce cutting edge theater, and often call on LUX Media to advise them on how to use the Internet to their best advantage.

Since they produce award winning shows and speak to the artists responsible many times on the telephone, we proposed that they formalize this process and actually interview the artists. Who better to explain what a piece is about that the artist? Once these interviews are recorded (from a simple telephone link), they are encoded and put on the LUX Media 501 servers.

Now comes the good part - On the Boards can use these interviews both as a preview for the show to drive ticket sales, and as a burgeoning archive which they'll be able to use in a multitude of ways.

To begin with, an edited version of the interview is made available via an email link. From this email and the accompanying file, On the Boards members are encouraged to visit the Web site to find out more about the performance and listen to the full version of the interview. This has resulted in increased traffic on the web site and increased ticket sales.

What's more, it is helping On the Boards make a national name for itself, as other theater organizations link to the interviews, which drives more traffic to the On the Boards site. Not bad for an afternoon's work.

Mayo Clinic

Mayo Clinic Health Information's award-winning consumer Web site offers health information, and self-improvement and disease management tools. MayoClinic.com's medical experts and editorial professionals bring you access to the knowledge and experience of Mayo Clinic for all of your consumer health information needs, from cancer, diabetes and heart disease to nutrition, exercise and pregnancy.

Streaming Media is a large part of the Mayo Clinic's Web site. Much of their rich media archive is available online in a streaming format, so doctors and patients alike can access the content at their leisure. And since they've started streaming, they're producing even more content. Doctors produce streaming media presentations from their desktop, offering cutting edge advice and instruction to other doctors around the world.

The best medical center in the world wanted to make sure that they were producing their streaming content to a uniformly high standard, so they contacted LUX Media 501. Two of their employees had attended one of LUX Media's half-day workshops at a conference, so they recommended him to their training department.

We flew out and provided two full-day workshops, complete with hands-on instruction that was customized to Mayo Clinic's streaming media infrastructure. Both workshops were fully booked weeks before we arrived. The workshops were so successful that we're going to return to run them again, so anyone who missed out can attend.
